Disaster Response
In the U.S.

In the U.S., Church World Service works with and through faith-based state and community organizations that engage in disaster preparedness, mitigation, and response activities.

Trained volunteer CWS Disaster Consultants organized along the lines of the 10 Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Regions facilitate the work of CWS's state and community partners as organizers-enablers, technical advisors, and links to outside resources. They include:

• A Regional Disaster Response Facilitator (RDRF) in each FEMA Region who assures proper support for other CWS volunteer consultants in the region and functions as a one-stop information source/contact and liaison with other regional disaster responders -- including  FEMA and the American Red Cross  

• State/territory-based Disaster Resource Consultants (DRCs) who provide year-round assistance to the state and local faith-based organizations  

• Disaster Response Specialists (DRSs) available for specialized assignments

Church World Service maintains memorandums of Understanding with the American Red Cross and the Federal Emergency Management Agency.
