Volunteer Disaster Consultants
Trained Church World Service volunteer Disaster Consultants -- the critical centerpiece of the CWS Emergency Response Program in the U.S. -- encourage cooperative programs by People of Faith in disaster response, preparedness, prevention/mitigation. This volunteer network, organized as teams within the 10 Federal Emergency Management Agency Regions, includes:
- Disaster Resource Consultants (DRCs)
who carry on year-round activities in their states and/or territories to help faith-based community organizations prepare to respond to disasters, prevent them, or lessen their effects. When disasters strike, CWS DRCs facilitate coordinated church or faith-based response through counsel and organizational and technical assistance. On behalf of state/territory inter-religious oraganizations, they participate as CWS members in state chapters of Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster and function as a liaisons with the Church World Service Emergency Response Program, the American Red Cross, Federal Emergency Management Agency, and state/territory emergency services.
