OUR PROGRAM: |
Volunteer Disaster Consultants Trained Church World Service volunteer Disaster Consultants -- the critical centerpiece of the CWS Emergency Response Program in the U.S. -- encourage cooperative programs by People of Faith in disaster response, preparedness, prevention/mitigation. This volunteer network, organized as teams within the 10 Federal Emergency Management Agency Regions, includes: - Disaster Resource Consultants (DRCs) who carry on year-round activities in their states and/or territories to help faith-based community organizations prepare to respond to disasters, prevent them, or lessen their effects. When disasters strike, CWS DRCs facilitate coordinated church or faith-based response through counsel and organizational and technical assistance. On behalf of state/territory inter-religious oraganizations, they participate as CWS members in state chapters of Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster and function as a liaisons with the Church World Service Emergency Response Program, the American Red Cross, Federal Emergency Management Agency, and state/territory emergency services. |
- Disaster Response Specialists (DRSs)
who work in specialized disaster response activities for CWS such as community organizing, management consulting, training.- A Regional Disaster Response Facilitator (RDRF)
supports and strengthens response capacity of DRCs and DRSs as a point-of-contact, information source, link to resources, advisor/counselor, and initiator/convener of planning meetings in each FEMA region and encourages them to work as a team. The RDRF also serves as regional liaison with other region-based disaster responders, including Federal Emergency Management Agency and American Red Cross Voluntary Agency (VOLAG) Representatives.[Our Work:
